Mr. Ashoka Priyantha, Minister of State for Home Affairs, said that it was decided to appoint a special committee to look into increasing the allowances of Grama Niladhari. The Minister stated this while speaking to the media during the District Secretaries Conference held on 16.09.2023 in the auditorium of the State Ministry of Home Affairs.
During the two-day conference of the district secretaries, the problems of the Grama Niladhari were discussed at length and it was decided to take a decision through a special committee regarding the increase of the allowances they are currently entitled to.
State Minister Mr. Ashoka Priyantha further stated that a committee consisting of senior officers of the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government will soon take a decision regarding increasing the allowances of Grama Niladhari. For a long time, the Grama Niladhari had been demanding to increase their allowances.
The awarding of permanent public service appointment letters for the recruitment of multi-purpose development assistants who worked in the Ministry of Home Affairs for office work was done on 05.09.2023 at the Ministry of Home Affairs under the leadership of Mr. Ashoka Priyantha, the Minister of State for Home Affairs.
According to the government's decision to give permanent appointments in the public service to all those who completed the training period of the multi-purpose development department, the appointments were given in this way.
The awarding of appointment letters and the one-day training session for the recruitment of multi-purpose development assistants for the Office Employees’ Service was conducted under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Hon.Dinesh Gunawardena on 30.06.2023 at the State Ministry of Home Affairs.
