Institute of National Security Studies Sri Lanka (INSSSL) is the premier National Security Think Tank of Sri Lanka established under the State Ministry of National Security, Home Affairs and Disaster Management.
The Institute of National Security Studies(INSSSL) is the premier national security think tank of Sri Lanka under the State Ministry of National Security, Home Affairs and Disaster Management, established to understand the security environment and to work with government to craft evidence based policy options and strategies for debate and discussion to ensure national security. The institute will conduct a broad array of national security research for the Ministry of Defence.

The Centre for Research and Development was raised on 30 July 2006. The base for the raising of this National Institution was laid by a cabinet memorandum approved on 29 March 2006. The CRD was created with a vision to establish a world-class science and technology base providing the military a decisive edge, by equipping them with internationally competitive systems and solutions.

a. To plan, research, design, develop and lead towards the production of state-of-the-art solutions; sensors, weapon systems, platforms and allied equipment for the country’s defence.
b. To provide technological solutions for Defence needs, to optimize combat effectiveness and to promote the wellbeing of troops.
c. To develop infrastructure and committed quality man power and build a strong technological base.
