The 74th Independence Day celebrations under the theme “An Affluent Tomorrow and Prosperous Motherland with Challenges Overcome” were held on February 4 at Independence Square under the patronage of His Excellency the President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
The National Independence Day celebration was marked with parades and beautiful cultural performances by the Armed Forces, which was attended by nearly 6,500 members of the Armed Forces, Police, Civil Defense Departments, and cadets.
3463 members of the Army, 919 members of the Navy, 804 members of the Air Force, 336 members of the Police, 282 members of the Police Special Task Force, 437 members of the Civil Defense Department, and 259 members of the National Cadet Corps participated in the proud parade. 111 armored vehicles were also involved.
Hon. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Ambassadors, High Commissioners and other Diplomats and Ministers, Heads of State Institutions including the Secretary to the President, Chiefs of Defense Staff and Commanders of the Army, Commander of the Navy, Commander of the Air Force, IGP, and many other family members of war heroes joined in the Independence Day celebrations.
